Unfortunately, too many patients waste enormous amounts of money and time on lotions and potions that over promise but under deliver. At Hair Transplants of Florida, we only promote medical therapies that are scientifically proven to help slow down the hair loss process.

Pr0pecia – FOR MEN ONLY

Considered as the best option to fight hair loss (85% effective), Pr0pecia blocks the hair loss gene from converting to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). In essence, it helps to take the DHT grip off of follicles, thus allowing them to receive more blood, which results in a healthier follicle. This helps the follicle avoid dying from malnutrition (lack of blood) thus producing healthier hair. Product is mostly effective in the mid to crown area. Cost: Pr0pecia 1mg went generic, lowering its cost from $80/month to $40-50/month. Many patients take it as a 5mg, cut it up in 1/4s and take a ¼ pill daily. This saves patients a great deal of money ($9-12 for 30 pills – average cost is $2-3/month). Side Effects: Since this drug was originally used for enlarged prostates, it actually helps to keep the prostate in check. Very few patients (1.8%), experienced a lower libido. This side effect is mostly found in patients in their fifties. PRESCRIPTION REQUIRED

Rogaine

Rogaine Minoxidil hair growth treatmentRogaine is a topical solution that patients apply twice a day (or once a day if taking Pr0pecia). When applied to the scalp, Rogaine attracts more blood to the area, thus helping to feed follicles. Some patients can experience greater (temporary) hair loss when applied due to some hairs being in their telogen phase. But they can begin to see improvement after a few months of use. Rogaine comes in a 5% dosage (for men) and a 2% dosage (for women). Product is mostly effective in the mid to crown area. Cost: Can range from $5/month (generic Min0xidil) to $12/can (Foam). NO PRESCRIPTION REQUIRED.

Laser Therapy

Theradome laser hair treatmentFor those patients who are interested in a non-invasive treatment for thinning hair, Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) can help you maintain and improve your thinning hair. Once a follicle dies, nothing can bring it back to life and must be replaced with hair transplantation. However, for those follicles that are in the process of weakening, resulting in thinning hair, laser therapy can help the follicle receive more blood supply, make the follicle healthier, thus producing a healthier, thicker hair.

The TheraDome is the most advanced laser therapy tool in the hair restoration industry. With over 440 Joules per treatment and an optimized wavelength of 678nm, each of its 80 lasers is precisely tailored for maximum hair growth. With only two treatments of 20-minutes each per week, you can’t grow wrong with the TheraDome! Cost: $895.

Natural Vitamins

Viviscal vitamins for hair growthFor those patients not interested in consuming pharmaceutical products, vitamins can help patients strengthen their hair, although it does not block DHT. Saw Palmetto, Vitamin B12, Biotin, Zinc and Magnesium are a few options you may have if you’re more interested in taking the natural route. Viviscal, which is a marine based vitamin, has shown to be very effective in strengthening hair, although it can be pretty costly at $40-50/month. It comes in regular dosage (available over the counter) or a professional dosage (through doctors offices).

IMPORTANT: As hair loss professionals, we can only recommend you take part in therapy options. However, it has been proven time and again that the most successful hair restoration patient is one that partakes in medical therapy in addition to hair transplantation. Since hair loss is continuous, it benefits a patient greatly to help slow down that process with medical therapy, while filling in the areas already void of hair with hair transplant surgery. This combination of therapy and surgery will help you reach your goal quicker and keep you there longer.
